FROM CARE DESIGN. UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF MEDICAID AND SERVICES
Medicaid is very important health coverage for many people, including our members. Even if someone has other insurance, Medicaid is still needed. That’s because Medicaid is the only coverage that pays for OPWDD services, which include:
- Respite
- Self-Direction Day Habilitation
- Community Habilitation
- Supported Employment (SEMP)
- Care Management from CCOs like CDNY
What This Means for You
Keeping Medicaid active helps make sure these services continue without interruption.
If Medicaid ends for any reason, members may lose access to their I/DD services and could have to apply again. We want to support you and make sure you have the information you need.
What You Can Do
- If you get mail from Medicaid or another benefits program (like SNAP), open it right away.
- If you get a packet to renew your Medicaid and it includes a form about disability determinations, fill it out and send it back with your recertification. This is a new step that is easy to miss!
- Your Care Manager is happy to help you fill out forms or review benefits.
- Stay alert and reach out early if you have questions. Medicaid can be confusing, but when we work together, we can prevent gaps in service.
Raise Your Voice: It Takes Less Than a Minute
Want to help protect services for people with I/DD? The CMANY One-Click Advocacy Tool makes it easy by sending a pre-written letter to your State legislators asking them to support funding. You can send the letter as-is, or add your own story to make it more personal.
